I have a Brother MFC-9440CN multi-function printer/fax/scanner. When I bought my new 64-bit Windows PC, Brother didn't have any Windows 7 drivers, so I used the original (Windows XP) software to get the device up and running. It did work perfectly - I could print but not scan. Plus I wasn't able to set it up as a shared printer so other family members on our home network could print to this device.
Now that Brother has 64-bit Windows 7 compatible software and drivers available, I'm having trouble installing it. When I try to install it, I get the message that 'MFL-Pro Suite is already installed. Do you want to uninstall and then proceed with installation?' I click yes and then within the Brother MFL-Pro Suite InstallShield Wizard I get the message 'An error occured during the installation. Please restart your PC, ensure all active applications are closed - then reinstall 'MFL-Pro Suite.'
I have already tried the Control Panel Uninstall a Program utility and end up with exactly the same error message.
I have downloaded an uninstall utility from Brother and end up with exactly the same error message.
I tried looking under regedit, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Uninstall for any stray registry entries relating to Brother. There aren't any!
I need to find a way to completely remove the now non-functioning MFL-Pro Suite software and Brother drivers so that I can install the new Windows 7 compatible version. Can anyone help with this?
